The Story Behind the Artwork
Nhất Chi Mai (A Single Apricot Blossom)
Là Lụa Là draws inspiration from the image of Nhất Chi Mai in the poem by Mãn Giác Zen Master to offer a wish for Vietnam. While the poem speaks of impermanence, the fleeting nature of time, and the transformation of all things, we see in it the resilience, renewal, and enduring spirit that have shaped Vietnam through generations.
“Say not that spring has passed, and every blossom withers. Last night, before the courtyard, one apricot branch blossomed anew.”
The single apricot blossom, blooming unexpectedly as spring fades, becomes a symbol of renewal and endurance. Like Vietnam, it continues to stand strong through hardship, carrying the hopes and aspirations of each generation forward.
The artwork brings together iconic landmarks including Turtle Tower, Hoan Kiem Lake, the Imperial City of Hue, and Ben Thanh Market representing Vietnam’s enduring history and cultural heritage.
A Wish for Our Homeland
“Resilient and steadfast, one generation of excellence following another. May Vietnam flourish and shine for generations to come.”
